Philosophy of Emotion and Our Bodies
One of the most important things I learned while studying philosophy of emotion is that emotions are an integral part of our decision making process. People who have impaired emotion also demonstrate impairments in judgement and diminished agency. And I have a stack of books on what happens to our bodies under stress and as the result of trauma, and frankly as the result of our cultural conditioning. We lose touch with our bodies. When we lose touch we can’t feel what our body is communicating with us, and there are a whole host of illnesses associated with that phenomenon. One of the consequences of this disconnection is that we lose touch with our intuition. My ultimate goal for you is to get back in touch with your body so that you can hear what it’s telling you. I want you to learn to practice and develop your virtues, whatever they are (Aristotelian, Christian, Yogic, Buddhist, etc., or your own special mix). I want you to find ease, and the way I help you do that is by helping you cultivate confidence in your ability to make decisions.
Here is a great research article by Dr. Sangeeta Singg, Professor of Psychology, Angelo State University, San Angelo, USA on the effects of reiki, and it's uses as an adjunct to western medical treatment.
About Reiki
Reiki is an energy healing modality. It has commonalities with other energy modalities. It is practiced by laying hands on the recipient while the practitioner sends reiki (chi, universal life energy) into the body. It can also be done over distance, as the recipient doesn’t have to be present. In fact you can lay on a picnic blanket in a meadow anywhere in the world and I could send you reiki, do a full session, while you relax and listen to birdsong. I could be cozy in a blanket cave. I know, it’s wild!
